Produced by Avex Classics International, this UK-based company specializes in live orchestral performances of iconic film scores synchronized with screenings. Featuring the 2007 Final Cut of the film Blade Runner, which also happens to be Ridley Scott's definitive version, projected on a massive HD screen. The North American leg kicks off in Portland, in January 2026 and wraps up just 1 month later in Oklahoma City, so don't mess around, this won't be here long!
In a sprawling Los Angeles, retired blade runner Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a jaded cop specialized in "retiring" rogue replicants, is reluctantly pulled back into the fray by the cunning Gaff (Edward James Olmos) to hunt four escaped Nexus-6 models led by the eloquent, desperate Roy Batty (Rutger Hauer). These replicants, with superhuman strength but a mere four-year lifespan to curb emotional growth, have returned looking to increase the lifespan from their creator, Eldon Tyrell (Joe Turkel). Deckard's investigation plunges him into moral shadows, and he falls for Rachael (Sean Young), an experimental replicant infused with implanted memories, forcing him to confront the blurred boundaries between synthetic and soulful existence.
Based on the short story Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick and filmed in a film noir style. This dystopian future sci-fi film has become a cult classic. This 2007 Final Cut is Ridley Scott's preferred version, and includes some new scenes but also removed the happy ending and added more ambiguity. The original release was a box-office disappointment in 1982, grossing just $33 million from a $30 million budget.
A specialist chamber orchestra assembled by Avex Classics International. For Blade Runner Live, the ensemble consists of about 11 musicians, including strings, brass, percussion, and synthesizers to replicate Vangelis's synthetic sound, with conducting by Pete Billington. Chosen specifically for this production, Billington has worked with the BBC Philharmonic and specializes in adapting synth-heavy scores for live ensembles.
Opening in 1921 as a vaudeville palace, the Majestic Theatre was the flagship of Karl Hoblitzelle's Interstate Theatre chain and was the largest in the U.S. at the time, seating 2,400 guests. It has undergone multiple restorations, including a $25 million upgrade in 2004 to modernize the acoustics, while the theater seating was adjusted to a more comfortable 1700. Famous persons that have graced its stage include Harry Houdini performing his famous needle-through-balloon trick in 1924 and a scandalous Mae West with her risque revue in 1933. And during Prohibition, a hidden speakeasy operated in the basement!
