An heir to eccentric Texas heavyweights like Guy Clark, Walter Hyatt, and Townes Van Zandt, Lyle Lovett is an industry powerhouse who laid the foundations for the alternative country and Americana era when he debuted in 1986 with his self-titled opus and his successor, Pontiac, landed in 1987. Full to the brim with characters, ballads, and dry wit, these couple of albums established Lyle Lovett as an artist whose appeal extended far beyond the country world. Already firmly rooted in the dusty eclecticism of Texas country, a subgenre where folk combined with the excitement of Western swing, Lyle Lovett expanded his voice with Lyle Lovett & His Large Band. Dropped in 1989, this was a record which boasted a skilled supporting band that has an incredible talent for swing and jump blues.
By the early nineties, Lyle Lovett dominated the airwaves and was a mainstay in the country and pop scenes. His iconic records - 1992’s Joshua Judges Ruth and 1994’s I Love Everybody - crossed over to an adult-oriented pop audience. What’s more, 1996's The Road to Ensenada clinched the Grammy for Best Country Album. With Lyle Lovett taking an extended 10 year hiatus from Release Me in 2012 and June 12 in 2022, he continued his legacy with his critically acclaimed shows with his Large Band.
“Amazing show once again! I've seen lyle a half dozen times both with his large band and his acoustic shows with john hiatt and have never been disappointed. Nobody can cover so many different genres of music, and cover them so well, as lyle and his band does,” says a happy audience member at the Chicago Theatre.
And now, Lyle Lovett and His Large Band is making their way to Majestic Theatre Dallas on October 15. This theater is the ideal destination to sing along to all your favorite hits like “Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die,” “On The Road Again,” and “If I Had A Boat.” This concert is not to be missed - secure your places now!
