Notaro hails from Jackson, Mississippi, and moved to Colorado later when she got involved in the music industry. In the late 90’s, her work took her to Los Angeles, where she tried stand-up comedy for the first time. In 2011, she released her debut album, Good One. The following year, she released another album, Live, which compiles her stand-up performances after she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Tig Notaro is best known for her deadpan comedy. Her style is unique yet charming and humorous at the same time. Before she was diagnosed with cancer, she took up everything and turned it into comedy. Nowadays, it’s more about self-reflection and looking back on her life. Her brand of comedy is enjoyed by people all across the country.
In 2014, Notaro was nominated for the Best Comedy Album award at the Grammies. Her special, Tig Notaro: Boyish Girl Interrupted, was also nominated in 2016 at the Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special. The same special was also nominated the following year for a Grammy award as the Best Comedy Album.
