Five time Grammy Award-winning country and folk singer, Mary Chapin Carpenter gained the public's attention in the late 1980s and early 1990s with hits such as "Down at the Twist and Shout" and “Passionate Kisses.” Her ability to connect with audiences through her emotionally powerful lyrics and delivery them with her powerful yet soulful voice cemented her place high up among some of the best country musicians. With 16 studio albums under her belt, from her 1987 debut “Howmetown Girl” to her latest offering, 2020's "The Dirt and the Stars," she has created the music that has inspired a generation of people and entertained hordes of fans at her concerts with a deep personal connection to the extent that she was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Her most successful album was 1992's “Come On Come On” had seven successful singles such as "He Thinks He'll Keep Her," "I Feel Lucky," and "The Hard Way," and was certified 4x platinum in the US for sales of four million.
She is multifaceted too, having collaborated with some of the heavy hitters in the industry, including Shawn Colvin, Joan Baez, and James Taylor, and has worked with the London Symphony Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic.
Mary actually graduated from Brown University with a degree in American civilization and was actually planning on a career in law before she pursued music. Fortunately for us, she chose the musical career path so we get to enjoy her on stage.
She is an author too, having written for the Washington Times during the period of 2008–2009. She wrote about topics connected to music and politics.
