HOW IT ALL BEGAN

The 1980 American disaster comedy film is packed with brilliant humor, slapstick comedy, puns, running jokes, and bits & pieces of dark humor on the side. Picked up by Paramount Pictures at a time when studios turned down David and Jerry Zucker’s idea of a big comedian without comedians. “We told the actors to pretend that they didn’t know they were in a comedy,” they shared with The Guardian. “We did all these ridiculous jokes, but always come back to grave danger.”

Despite doubts and an unusual format at the time, the film achieved critical success, highly considered as one of the greatest comedy films ever made to this day. Its creators received the Writers Guild of America Award for Best Adapted Comedy, and nominations at the Golden Globe Awards and the BAFTA Film Awards. 

Robert Hays, the star that played Ted Striker shares some bits and pieces about how his role came to be. “I read the script on an aeroplane. There was something on every page that made me laugh out loud and the stewardess noticed,” he shared with The Guardian. “We laughed every day. I couldn’t wait to get to the set… Keeping a straight face was the hardest part of the whole film for me.”

Largely considered as a cult classic today, this Director’s Cut version will share some fresh scenes and unique perspectives that David Zucker will definitely be talking about after the screening.
