Start marking your calendars because the one and only Andy Bell is kicking off his biggest solo project yet. Twelve years in the making since his last solo project "Non-Stop" in 2010, the synth-pop master is back in the game. This time, he's got another serving of pure pop perfection that he's always been known for. Launching an album tour in support of his new record, he'll be performing his new anthems alongside all-time favorites from Erasure.
The new LP marks Bell's most personal pieces of work yet. Inspired by the Ten of Coins tarot, the album touches on matters that tackle his childhood, family life, his identity, and withstanding legacy. Brought to life with the Grammy Award-winning producer Dave Aude, it's an album that's been a long time coming.
"Dave Audé, the producer, and I had been working on songs together over the past 12 years, so we had a collection," Bell told Forbes. The artist revealed that "Don't Cha Know" was the first track to be made, singing the song over Zoom with lyrics printed on a piece of paper - and Dave just did his magic.
"It was an organic process. It happens often with an Erasure album, too," Bell continued. He explains that the last song written becomes the first song in the album. For Ten Crowns, it's "Interstellar". "It's strange because it's almost like you're working in reverse."
Sharing how they didn't really have much of a concept for the album, everything just fell into place. With an overwhelmingly positive response to the singles rolled out, it sure is an exciting era to live in - Andy Bell dropping a new solo project after 12 years. Long-time fans have patiently waited for this very day.
On stage, you can expect his signature energy to take control. Powerful vocals, an amazing falsetto, and infectious vibes that'll get you up & going, he's got this magical flair that just enables him to instantly connect with the crowd. With music that spans eras and offers genre-bending twists, his work is always full of surprises.
Experiencing the industry's drastic shift, he shares that those pop programs on TV back in the day just aren't here anymore. Yet, he finds it amazing to instantly get feedback that enables him to keep the fire going. Hopping on tour, he remarks via Forbes that "It's my passion. I love doing it, and we had so much fun recording it."
Having written over 200 songs throughout his career, he's sold over 25 million albums globally. Five consecutive #1 hits on the UK charts, he sure is an icon in the industry. A loud and proud gay star, he's become a huge icon among the LGTBQ+ community as well.
